💬 WhatsApp Quick Reference Guide

A printable guide covering WhatsApp basics — messages, photos, voice messages, video calls, and group chats.

Sending a Text Message

  • Open WhatsApp and tap the "Chats" tab at the bottom
  • Tap an existing conversation or tap the new-message icon (pencil or chat bubble)
  • Type your message in the text box at the bottom
  • Tap the green Send arrow to send

Sending Photos & Videos

  • Open a chat and tap the paperclip icon (Android) or the + icon (iPhone)
  • Choose "Camera" to take a new photo, or "Gallery/Photos" to pick an existing one
  • Add a caption if you like, then tap Send

Voice Messages

  • In a chat, tap and hold the microphone icon on the right side
  • Speak your message while holding the button
  • Release to send — swipe left to cancel if you change your mind

Making Video & Voice Calls

  • Open the chat with the person you want to call
  • Tap the phone icon for a voice call or the camera icon for a video call (top-right)
  • To end the call, tap the red hang-up button

Group Chats

  • Tap the three dots (Android) or "Chats" tab (iPhone), then "New Group"
  • Select the contacts you want to add and tap the arrow
  • Give your group a name (e.g., "Family Chat") and tap the checkmark
  • To leave a group: open it, tap the group name at the top, scroll down, tap "Exit Group"

Useful Settings

  • Change text size: Settings > Chats > Font Size
  • Turn read receipts on/off: Settings > Privacy > Read Receipts
  • Back up your chats: Settings > Chats > Chat Backup
  • Block a contact: open their chat, tap their name, scroll down, tap "Block"
