Wi-Fi & Internet Error

5GHz Wi-Fi Network Not Showing Up

What This Means (In Plain English)

Your device cannot see the faster 5GHz Wi-Fi network from your router. You may only see the slower 2.4GHz network.

Low UrgencyThis is not urgent. Take your time with the fix.

Common Causes

  • Device is too far from the router for 5GHz
  • The device only supports 2.4GHz
  • 5GHz band is disabled on the router
  • The 5GHz network has a different name

How to Fix It — Step by Step

  1. 1

Make sure you are close to the router — 5GHz has a shorter range than 2.4GHz.

  2. 2

Check that your router actually broadcasts a 5GHz network (not all do).

  3. 3

The 5GHz network may have a different name — look for your network name with "5G" or "5GHz" at the end.

  4. 4

Check your device specifications — some older devices only support 2.4GHz.

  5. 5

    Restart your router.

  6. 6

Log into your router settings and make sure the 5GHz band is enabled.

How to Prevent This in the Future

When buying a router, make sure it supports dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz). Position it centrally for best coverage.
