Wi-Fi & Internet Error

The Network Security Key Isn't Correct

What This Means (In Plain English)

The Wi-Fi password you entered is wrong. The "network security key" is just a technical term for your Wi-Fi password.

Low UrgencyThis is not urgent. Take your time with the fix.

Common Causes

  • Typing the password with wrong capitalisation
  • The password was changed and the new one was not recorded
  • Confusing similar characters like O and 0, or l and 1

How to Fix It — Step by Step

  1. 1

Check the Wi-Fi password carefully — it is case-sensitive (capital and lowercase letters matter).

  2. 2

Look at the sticker on the bottom or back of your router for the default password.

  3. 3

If you or someone else changed the password, try to remember or find where it was written down.

  4. 4

On your device, tap "Show Password" if that option is available, to make sure you are typing it correctly.

  5. 5

If you cannot remember the password, you can reset your router to factory settings (this will use the default password on the sticker).

  6. 6

To reset the router, press and hold the tiny Reset button on the back for 10 seconds with a paperclip.

How to Prevent This in the Future

Write down your Wi-Fi password and keep it in a safe place. If you change it, update your written copy.
