Mac Error

AirDrop — No People Found on Mac

What This Means (In Plain English)

Your Mac cannot find nearby Apple devices to share files with. Both devices need to have AirDrop enabled and be close together.

Low UrgencyThis is not urgent. Take your time with the fix.

Common Causes

  • AirDrop is set to "No One" or "Off"
  • Wi-Fi or Bluetooth is turned off
  • Devices are too far apart
  • Firewall is blocking incoming connections

How to Fix It — Step by Step

  1. 1

Open Finder and click "AirDrop" in the sidebar.

  2. 2

At the bottom of the window, change "Allow me to be discovered by" to "Everyone".

  3. 3

Make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are both turned on.

  4. 4

On the other device (iPhone or another Mac), also set AirDrop to "Everyone".

  5. 5

Make sure both devices are within about 10 feet (3 metres) of each other.

  6. 6

If using an older Mac, it may not be compatible with newer AirDrop versions.

How to Prevent This in the Future

Keep Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on. Set AirDrop to "Contacts Only" for everyday use.
