Don’t worry — this is a common issue and usually easy to fix!

Wi-Fi & Internet Error

Connected to Neighbor's or Unknown Network

What This Means (In Plain English)

Your device automatically connected to someone else's Wi-Fi network instead of yours. You should disconnect and connect to your own network.

Low UrgencyThis is not urgent. Take your time with the fix.

Common Causes

  • Your device saved an open network and auto-connected to it
  • Your neighbour's network has a stronger signal
  • An open network with a generic name like "Free WiFi"

How to Fix It — Step by Step

  1. 1

Go to your Wi-Fi settings and check which network you are connected to.

  2. 2

If it is not your network, tap on it and choose "Forget" or "Disconnect".

  3. 3

Find your own network in the list and connect to it.

  4. 4

Make sure you know your own network name — it is usually on the sticker on your router.

  5. 5

To prevent this from happening again, "forget" any networks that are not yours.

How to Prevent This in the Future

Forget any Wi-Fi networks that are not yours. Your device will then only auto-connect to known, trusted networks.
