How to Use Facebook on iPhone

This guide walks you through downloading, setting up, and using Facebook on your iPhone — one step at a time. No tech jargon, just clear instructions.

1Download Facebook

  1. 1

    Open the App Store.

  2. 2

    Search for "Facebook."

  3. 3

Tap "Get" next to Facebook by Meta Platforms.

  4. 4

Confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or Apple ID password.

  5. 5

Wait for the download to complete.

2Set Up Your Account

Open Facebook

Tap the blue Facebook icon on your home screen.

Log in or create account

Enter your email and password to log in. If you do not have an account, tap "Create New Account" and follow the steps — you will need your name, birthday, email, and a password.

Find friends

Facebook will suggest people you may know. You can send friend requests or skip this step.

Set up your profile

Add a profile photo (a clear picture of your face) and optionally add your hometown, workplace, and school.

3How to Use Facebook

Scroll through your News Feed

The main screen shows posts from friends and pages you follow. Scroll down to see more. Tap "Like" (thumbs up) to react to posts.

Post a status update

Tap "What's on your mind?" at the top of the feed. Type your message, optionally add a photo, and tap "Post."

Share a photo

Tap "What's on your mind?" then tap "Photo/Video." Choose photos from your library and tap "Post."

Find and join groups

Tap the three-line menu, then "Groups." Search for topics that interest you — there are groups for everything from gardening to local community events.

Search for people

Tap the magnifying glass at the top. Type a person's name to find them and send a friend request.

Tips for Seniors

  • Increase text size on your iPhone (Settings > Display & Brightness > Text Size) to make Facebook easier to read.

  • Be cautious about friend requests from strangers — only accept people you actually know.

  • Check your privacy settings: go to Settings & Privacy > Settings > Privacy to control who can see your posts.

  • Join local community groups to stay connected with events and neighbors in your area.

Common Issues & Solutions

I forgot my Facebook password
On the login screen, tap "Forgot Password?" Enter your email or phone number and Facebook will send you a code to reset your password.
I keep seeing ads and posts from strangers
Tap the three dots on any post and select "Hide post" or "Snooze" to see less of that type. Go to Settings > Feed Preferences to prioritize friends and family.
Facebook is using too much battery
Turn off auto-play for videos: go to Settings & Privacy > Settings > Media > Autoplay and set it to "Never." Also turn off location access in iPhone Settings > Facebook > Location > Never.
