How to Use Facebook on Windows PC

This guide walks you through downloading, setting up, and using Facebook on your Windows PC — one step at a time. No tech jargon, just clear instructions.

1Download Facebook

  1. 1

Open your web browser (Chrome, Edge, or Firefox).

  2. 2

Go to facebook.com in the address bar.

  3. 3

No installation needed — Facebook works entirely in your browser.

  4. 4

Optionally, you can install the Facebook app from the Microsoft Store.

2Set Up Your Account

Go to Facebook

Open your browser and go to facebook.com.

Enter your email and password, then click "Log In." If you are new, click "Create New Account."

Bookmark it

Press Ctrl+D to bookmark Facebook for easy access in the future.

3How to Use Facebook

Browse your feed

The main page shows your News Feed. Scroll down to see posts from friends, groups, and pages you follow.

Post updates

Click "What's on your mind?" at the top to write a post. Add photos by clicking the photo/video icon.

Send messages

Click the Messenger icon (chat bubble) at the top right to send messages. Or go to messenger.com for a full messaging experience.

Browse Marketplace

Click "Marketplace" in the left sidebar to buy and sell items in your local area.

Manage your settings

Click your profile picture at the top right > Settings & Privacy > Settings to control your privacy and account.

Tips for Seniors

  • Use Ctrl+"+" to zoom in on Facebook and make everything bigger. Ctrl+"-" zooms out. Ctrl+0 resets to normal.

  • Facebook on a computer gives you the full experience with all features — it is often easier to manage than the phone app.

  • Set up two-factor authentication for extra account security in Settings > Security and Login.

  • Click "Memories" in the left sidebar to see posts from previous years — a lovely trip down memory lane.

Common Issues & Solutions

Facebook looks different from what I remember
Facebook updates its design regularly. The main features are still in the same places — your feed in the center, messages at the top right, and menu on the left.
I cannot log in to my account
Click "Forgot password?" on the login page. Enter your email or phone number and follow the steps to reset your password.
The page loads slowly
Clear your browser cache with Ctrl+Shift+Delete. Close unnecessary tabs. Make sure your internet connection is strong.
