How to Use Instagram on Mac

This guide walks you through downloading, setting up, and using Instagram on your Mac — one step at a time. No tech jargon, just clear instructions.

Watch Stories and Reels

Click on profile pictures at the top for Stories. Click the Reels icon in the sidebar for short videos.

Direct messages

Click the paper airplane icon to send messages to friends.

  • Press Command+"+" to zoom in for a bigger, easier-to-read view.

  • Add instagram.com to your Dock in Safari: Share > Add to Dock for quick access.

Common Issues & Solutions

I cannot upload photos
Click the "+" icon at the top of the page. If posting does not work in Safari, try Chrome instead.
Instagram notifications are not showing on my Mac
Instagram web does not support desktop notifications in all browsers. Check Safari Settings > Websites > Notifications to allow instagram.com.
Videos do not play with sound
Click on the video and look for the speaker icon to unmute. Check that your Mac volume is turned up.
