How to Use Zoom on iPad

This guide walks you through downloading, setting up, and using Zoom on your iPad — one step at a time. No tech jargon, just clear instructions.

1Download Zoom

  1. 1

Open the App Store on your iPad.

  2. 2

Tap the Search tab and type "Zoom."

  3. 3

Find "Zoom Workplace" and tap "Get."

  4. 4

Confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple ID password.

  5. 5

Wait for the app to install.

2Set Up Your Account

Open Zoom

Tap the blue Zoom icon on your home screen.

Sign up or sign in

Create a free account with your email, or sign in with Google or Apple for quick setup.

Allow permissions

Tap "Allow" when asked for camera, microphone, and notification access.

Test your setup

Tap "New Meeting" to start a test call and check that your camera and microphone are working properly on the iPad.

3How to Use Zoom

Join a meeting

Tap "Join" on the home screen. Type in the Meeting ID from your invitation and tap "Join." Enter the passcode if required.

Enjoy the big screen

The iPad's larger screen lets you see more participants at once. Use Gallery View to see everyone in a grid layout.

Use the chat

During a meeting, tap "More" at the bottom, then "Chat" to send text messages to other participants without interrupting the speaker.

Share your screen

Tap "Share Content" at the bottom to show others what is on your iPad — useful for showing photos or documents.

Use a stand

Prop your iPad up with a stand or case so you can see the screen hands-free during long calls.

Tips for Seniors

  • Use a tablet stand so your iPad stays steady during calls — it is more comfortable than holding it.

  • The iPad's front camera is centered at the top, so look toward it when speaking to make eye contact with others.

  • Connect earphones or AirPods for better audio and to avoid echo in the room.

  • Tap the screen once to show the meeting controls, then tap "Speaker View" to focus on the person talking.

Common Issues & Solutions

My face appears too dark on camera
Face a window or lamp so light shines on your face, not behind you. Avoid sitting with a bright window behind you as it creates a silhouette.
The app closes during a meeting
Make sure your iPad has enough battery — plug it in during long calls. Close other apps to free up memory. Update Zoom to the latest version in the App Store.
I cannot find the meeting controls
Tap anywhere on the screen during a meeting to show the controls at the bottom. They hide automatically after a few seconds to give you more screen space.
