YouTube usually comes pre-installed on Android phones.

If you are already signed into your Google account on your phone, YouTube is ready. If not, tap the profile icon and sign in.

3How to Use YouTube

Search for videos

Tap the magnifying glass and type what you want to watch. Tap a video to play it.

Subscribe

Tap the red "Subscribe" button under any video to follow that channel.

Control playback

Tap the video for controls. Double-tap the right side to skip forward 10 seconds, or double-tap the left side to go back 10 seconds.

Share a video

Tips for Seniors

  • Turn your phone sideways for a bigger, full-screen video experience.

  • Tap "CC" on any video to turn on captions for easier understanding.

  • Use voice search: tap the microphone icon in the search bar and say what you want to watch.

  • YouTube is great for learning — search for anything from "how to use Android phone" to "stretching exercises for seniors."

Common Issues & Solutions

YouTube uses too much data
Go to your profile icon > Settings > Video quality preferences > On mobile networks and set to "Data saver." This uses less data per video.
Ads are too frequent
YouTube shows ads on the free version. You can skip most after 5 seconds. YouTube Premium removes ads for $13.99/month.
Videos are not loading
Check your internet connection. Try closing and reopening the app. Clear the YouTube cache in Android Settings > Apps > YouTube > Storage > Clear Cache.
